March 18, 2011

Each day there is more frightening news from the Middle East and northern Africa. As far as I can tell, the list of countries with current or recent demonstrations against their governments, or currently engaged in war, is the same as you and I listed last week:

  • Egypt
  • Tunisia
  • Bahrain
  • Yemen
  • Libya
  • Oman
  • Jordan
  • Lebanon
  • Iran
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Kuwait
  • Oman
  • Pakistan
  • Iraq
  • Afghanistan
  • Palestine/Israel (of course)

That’s a scary list. People are dying. You know how war and talking of war makes me cry. That list is a looming bucketful of tears.

With Iran and North Korea flexing their nuclear muscles, Japan having just been slammed by a 9.0 earthquake followed by a devastating tsunami and nuclear reactor meltdowns, and all of the regular negative stuff we always hear, the news has been decidedly dismal lately.

But spring is here (according to the calendar, anyway)! I’ll take it.

****March 21, 2011 – Today we can add Syria and Qatar, and winter didn’t leave us. Punxsutawney Phil was incorrect this year. We have had an additional six weeks of winter.****
